Caitlyn + David

A Rustic & Elegant Barn Wedding in Vermont

1.22.22

Love Story

David and Caitlyn met while working together in the ICU at Dartmouth Hitchcock. David was a travel nurse from Ohio, and Caitlyn was new to the unit. They worked together for almost seven months before they had their first date.

By the time they finally went on their first date, David only had three weeks left on his assignment in New Hampshire before he would return to Ohio to attend school to become an anesthesiologist. Despite time being so short, three weeks was enough time together to know that they wanted to keep seeing each other, even being 600 miles apart.

Caitlyn and David continued seeing each other and quickly fell deeply in love. Caitlyn moved to Ohio while he finished school; they got engaged toward the end of his school and had plans to set their roots back in Vermont once he graduated.

Engagement Story

David and Caitlyn were on a hiking trip, a typical vacation for the couple. They were staying at Airbnb in the Adirondacks. David knew Caitlyn didn’t want anything too fancy–no hidden photographers or family and friends waiting to celebrate with a huge surprise party. He knew she would want the moment just for the two of them, so he kept it simple. While Caitlyn was checking out the Airbnb, David waited patiently upstairs and called her up to “look at the master bathroom,” and there he was, down on one knee!

The Venue

The couple wanted to have a rustic and elegant Vermont wedding, so they chose Maquam Barn and Winery in Milton, Vermont. They loved that it was a barn with that Vermont charm but that it was still very clean and charming.

The First Dance

Caitlyn and David opted to include their fur baby in some of the pictures before the ceremony; they wanted to look back on the day and have a few special pictures with him.

The moment they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day “was pure excitement and joy. It had been a moment we had both been waiting for, and we both got very emotional during this time.”

The Couple’s Advice: “Hire a planner!”

Caitlyn said if she could go back in time and share one piece of advice with herself, she would have wanted a planner from start to finish–not just in the last couple of months.

“There were definitely areas where I overspent because I didn’t know how to budget shop or ways to save money. I also just had so much going on that I wasn’t always very organized. I lost my addresses and couldn’t remember vendor contact details, among other things. A planner would have helped me enjoy it more.”
